Paullette's Story-Rahab's Beginnings

Hello,

I wanted to tell you a little about myself and my life and after that how I ended up with an outreach to help women that no longer want to be in the sex industry, to find hope and to find God.

Myself and My Life .... Difficult Beginnings:

When I was a young woman I married someone I should not have married.  The signs were all there not to marry this man but I went ahead anyway.  After a terrible time and my children being torn apart (which is fairly the norm these days), I started the road to recovery.

The Road to Recovery - Finding Meaning:

One thing that I always pondered was how amazing it was that everything was there for us, readymade for people.

Take a moment to watch a sunset and see the creator's handiworkThere was topsoil on the ground that happened to grow all the vegies, there were fruit trees that grew fruit that came in their own casing and were full of vitamins.  The fruit that really spun me out was the mandarin, being pre cut and all, ripened in winter and bursting with Vitamin C.  How man got around on a horse, designed to be ridden before cars came about.  Then there was the sea that doesn’t take away the land even in the wildest storms.  Everything was so incredible.  Flowers were so beautiful, the wild life animals were strikingly handsome and the sea world something else. Under the sea was an incredible world of plants and fish, whales and dolphins - all just too amazing.  Then there was the question of life: We just breath the air and when we grown old or sick we die and what happens to us then?  I started to search through eastern religions and I was fully into Yoga when I found God.

Finding Meaning in God, The Creator of Everything Amazing and Purpose in Life:

When I found God, I remember falling in absolute love with Him.  I acutally loved God as a child but at the age of 13 years I dismissed God as a fairy tale because of some bad things that had happened to me.  I now know God is very real and all we have to do is ask him into our lives and He can take over and lead and direct us.  We have desires and dreams and they are in us for a purpose and God has given us those things and He gives us the desires of our Hearts.  I could honestly say that I have never looked back since that day.  I must admit that when my marriage failed it did take a while to recover but its all good now.  I have never remarried and enjoy a busy single life.

If you're strugling, if you're hurting, turn to God. God will help you.
A God Keenly Interested in You and Me:

If you are struggling, if you are hurting turn to God.  God will help you.

The Gospel message is so plain and clear and very easy.

If you want to ask more questions please email me on the contact list and I will answer them the best I can.

The Beginning of Training and Discovering Purpose:

I did a course called a Discipleship Training School nine years ago, three months in the classroom and there months overseas in a third world country with a team doing community development.  I just loved it and came back and led many teams over to Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines, Brazil, Uruguay, and worked on the borders of Myanmar in refugee camps.

Always with the teams I would end up in the huge red light areas of these countries and would want to talk with the girls in the bars.  I don’t have a real flare for picking up languages so I found it hard to talk to the girls.  Sometimes, I would just take a team into the redlight areas with sewing, or teaching english, or playing pool.  Whatever was suitable.  Now those girls in the bars overseas, many of those girls are not having any fun at all.  Some were bought, some are working to send money home to their parents and some are slaves to the sex industry.

The Beginning of Rahab:

After one such trip, I came home to Adelaide and said to a friend, that I just wanted to go back to the red light areas in Thailand and Cambodia but informed her that I could not speak the language and this woman turned to me and said, “Why don’t you work with the girls in the brothels here in Adelaide” and I had a feeling like a coin dropping into my heart and then could not get it out until I started the work here called Rahab.

Rahab started with me knocking on one door, and the doors have been opening ever since.

Rahab started with me knocking on one door, and the doors have been opening ever since.  Now in it’s sixth year, Rahab is supported by a group of dedicated volunteers who have a heart for women and a desire to be the hands and feet of Christ in Adelaide.
